Mike Posner has previously revealed that that the biggest influence for his music, a blend of Pop, R&B, and Hip Hop, was from growing up in Southfield. Posner's family includes his mother Roberta Henrion, father Jon Marcy Posner, and sister Emily.

Posner's debut album 31 Minutes to Takeoff was released in August 2010 by J Records. The album included the hits "Cooler than Me", "Please Don't Go" and "Bow Chicka Wow Wow". His next album titled At Night, Alone is scheduled to be released in May.
