Loch Ness Monster Quick Fact

The first recorded encounter of the Loch Ness Monster was in the 6th century by Saint Columba while he was visiting the Scottish Highland, according to a biography written of him after his death. The legend states that Saint Columba was able to force a "water beast" to retreat which saved a man from harm while he swam in the River Ness.
