Born December 29, 1947 in San Diego, California, Ted Danson is probably most well known as bartender Sam Malone in the popular sitcom Cheers (1982 - 1993). For this role Danson earned the Golden Globe Award in 1989 and 1990, and the Emmy Award in 1990 and 1993. Cheers received a total of 26 Emmy Awards and a record 111 Emmy nominations. Over the years Danson has also been a hit on the big screen in movies such as 3 Men and a Little Lady (1990); Just Between Friends (1986); Saving Private Ryan; (1998) and Mumford (1999). In 1994 Danson acted and also worked behind the camera as producer in the 1994 movie Pontiac Moon. It was here that Danson would meet his future wife, Mary Steenburgen. Mary Steenburgen was born February 8, 1953 in Newport, Arkansas. Steenburgen won both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award in 1980 for Best Supporting Actress in the movie Melvin and Howard.
