Shakira Mebarak was born February 2, 1977 in Barranquilla, Columbia. Shakira set the music world on fire in 2001 with her single 'Wherever, Whenever', which hails from her highly successful album 'Laundry Service.' Despite enjoying success in the Latin-Amercian music scene for several years, it was only until this former top-ten song was released that Shakira finally got the attention of English-speaking music community as well.
When the production of 'Laundry Service' was near completion, Shakira purchased a home in Miami Beach, Florida for $3.4 million.
