He is the son of Walt Piatkowski, of the defunct American Basketball Association (1967-1976).Eric Piatkowski was drafted out of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln by the Indiana Pacers and was the 15th pick of the 1994 NBA Draft. The Pacers gave Piatkowski's draft rights to the Los Angeles Clippers.
Eric Piatkowski played his first nine seasons with the Clippers. Since then, Piatkowski has played for the Houston Rockets, Chicago Bulls and the Phoenix Suns.
