Melanie Oudin stunned the tennis world when she ousted former World No. 1 Jelena Jankovic in the third round of the 2009 Wimbledon tennis championships. The 17-year-old dropped the first set but came back strong to win the match 6-7 7-5 6-2. At the time of her victory, Oudin's career earnings were only $116,900 compared to Jankovic's $7,300,102.

Melanie Oudin's interest in tennis began at the age of seven while playing with her grandmother. By the age of nine, Oudin wanted to commit completely to tennis so her parents allowed her to be home-schooled so she could better focus on the sport. Oudin refined her game under coach Brian de Villiers at Racquet Club of the South.

The 70th-ranked player has continued her shock the world tour at the US Open, where she added top tennis players: Elena Dementieva, Maria Sharapova, and Nadia Petrova to her list.

In January of 2006, Melanie Oudin's parents purchased a two-story brick home in Marietta, Georgia for $720,828. Built in 2005, the home has four bedrooms, five bathrooms, and 3,766 square feet.

Before turning pro Melanie Oudin had a very successful Junior Tennis career. Oudin won the Eddie Herr International Junior Tennis Championships, the Easter Bowl, and the USTA International Spring Championships.
