Before joining NBC Brian Williams was the anchor at WCBS-TV in New York City from 1987-1993. In August of 1993 NBC News announced that Brian Williams had been named anchor of the Saturday edition of NBC Nightly News. Brian Williams took over the NBC Nightly News anchor position from renowned journalist Tom Brokaw in December of 2004 before temporarily stepping down from the position in 2015 amidst controversy regarding his claimed involvement as a passenger during a helicopter shoot-down incident several years earlier during the Iraq war.

Brian Williams and his wife Jane Stoddard currently reside in New Canaan, Connecticut. Built in 1890 and set on 2.5 acres, the colonial-style home has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, swimming pool, 3,448 square feet, and had an approximate value of $4 million in 2022.
